(1755-1813)
Georgia delegate William Houston was born in 1755 in Savannah, Georgia.
He was a member of the Continental Congress and represented Georgia in a boundary dispute with South Carolina in 1785.
Houston also served as one of the original trustees of the University of Georgia at Athens.
One of his fellow delegates to the Philadelphia Convention described him as a “gentleman of family” with little or no legal or political knowledge.
He did not sign the Constitution, having left the Convention on July 23.
