Partner Developed Materials - Civic-Link

Civic Link portfolio boardCivic-Link is an adapted and enhanced version of the Center’s Project Citizen curricular program that engages students in collaborative learning activities and discussions addressing issues of community and identity in a way designed to alleviate division and conflict. Co-operation Ireland, the Civitas International Programs partner in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, developed and utilizes Civic-Link to empower young people to actively participate within their own communities and to engage positively with each other. Schools in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are partnered to undertake civic action projects in tandem. Recently, Civic-Link has incorporated a human rights approach, which facilitates transcendence beyond identity politics and a negotiation of policy solutions based on respect for human dignity and rights - incorporating the processes of balancing and limiting rights. This approach has had resonance with other conflict areas globally and has been used in the Balkans and in Civitas International Programs workshops with participants from the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa.
